Jerome and I are starting to get obsessed with different types of healthy snack balls. They are such an amazing thing to keep in the fridge for those times of snacking and hungriness. These are a delicious and guilt-free snack ball recipe that are soooo easy to make. They are very similar to our rum ball recipe that we published at Christmas time last year but without the rum and added chocolate. Now, if you are looking for a tasty and healthy snack that you can keep at home and eat whenever you are feeling peckish... this is the recipe! These are so chocolatey and so decadent but are also super good for you! Jerome and I couldn't stop eating them because they taste so similar to brownies or the brownie mixture before you cook it. It is actually quite unbelievable... it feels like such a naughty snack! I guarantee that you will love these :)
makes 15 - 20 balls
1 1/3 cups pitted dates
1/3 cup walnuts
1/3 cup almonds
1/4 teaspoon vanilla essence
3 tablespoons shredded coconut
2 tablespoons cacao powder
1 tablespoon water (optional)*
1 tablespoon water (optional)*
- Add all ingredients to a food processor and pulse until completely combined.
- Pour the mixture into a bowl.
- Take 1-tablespoon portions of the mixture and roll them into balls until all of the mixture has been used. Sometimes squeezing the mixture in your hands first and then rolling it can make it easier. Also, sometimes damp hands can help the rolling process.
- Refrigerate until needed.
- Serve and start receiving compliments for your amazingly healthy and delicious snack!
- *If you are using really dry dates, the water can really help to add moisture, bring everything together and make the rolling easier.
- Feel free to any types of nuts that you have on hand.
The nutrition information above is an approximate guideline.
This is wonderful. I don't eat wheat or dairy but I love choccy goodies. I tried something simular in Bali and they had Spirulina in them. Think I might try that in them for that extra health kick. Cheers. Love your food and your site.
ReplyDeleteHello! Thank you. I hope you enjoy them :)
DeleteThese are great. So quick and easy to make and my husband and kids also love them. Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Elena! I am really glad that you love them. We really enjoyed them too :D
DeleteI love all things no bake. These sound so good!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa :)
DeleteThese look amazing! Just curious, how long will these last in the fridge?
ReplyDeleteThank you. They should last for a couple of weeks or so or even more! It is all dried fruit and nuts and they always last for ages in my fridge when in a packet so they should be fine!
DeleteMy husband LOVED these. I used extra-soft medjools which is what I had in the freezer, so they came out VERY moist. I rolled them in unsweetened finely shredded coconut to keep them from sticking to my fingers. It also made them extra pretty. Thanks for the YUM! Ivy
ReplyDeleteHi Ivy! I am so happy that you and your husband loved them. We love them too :)
Deletethese look great so i would love to try them. but i don't have vanilla essence and it takes months to make it. i do have vanilla pods though. anyway i can use them directly?
ReplyDeleteHi there! You could add some vanilla seeds into the mixture yes... you will just need to do it to taste. Thanks :)
DeleteThese are amazing! My 2.5 year old helped me make and then eat them. I used mixed raw nuts and added a tbsp of boiled water to the final blend to help them stick. Thanks for the recipe, I will be making this again and again.
ReplyDeleteHello! Oh I am so glad that you enjoyed them :) Thanks for telling us!
Deletehands down most DELICIOUS and EASIEST thing I have EVER made. NO hyperbole.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Hehe thank you! I am so happy that you love them... We love them too!
DeleteThanks for the great recipe. Tweaked it a little with coco nibs and oat meal. Perfect guilt free chocolate fix!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff! Glad you enjoyed it :)
DeleteI followed the recipe exactly and they are perfect! We all loved them (even our fussy 2 year old). Dee
ReplyDeleteOh I am so happy :) They are really delicious!!
DeleteThanks Madison, these are amazing! They're not quite guilt free for me because I'm supposed to be taking them to a friend's house tonight but I keep eating them! :) Kali
ReplyDeleteHehe yay! Thanks Kali :)
DeleteHey there! :) I would love to try these but I have a food intolerance to coconut. Do you have any suggestions what else I could use instead of shredded coconut? That'd be great! :) Michaela
ReplyDeleteThese turned out very cute. I like the idea of making brownie balls instead of cake balls. Did refrigerating the pops after they were dipped add a lot of extra moisture?
ReplyDeleteHi Madison, I am new to your website. I have a very good vegan friend, and I think this site will be very helpful. In this Chocolate Date Ball recipe, can I use fresh Medjool dates instead of dried? Do I need to adjust the recipe? Thank you for all your hard work. Creating recipes is hard work! Sandra
ReplyDeleteIt should be fine... probably even better!
DeleteMade these today and they are the bomb!
ReplyDeleteI added a tablespoon of melted coconut oil so they didn't stick to my hands when I rolled them and also because I wanted to roll them in coconut. Will definitely be making them on a regular basis.
Thanks, Michelle.
