Hi there! My name is Madison, I am 30 years-old and live in Australia with my husband Jerome, my daughters Mia and Bella, our two naughty Chihuahuas and 12 rescue chickens. With the help of my little vegan family and furry/feathered friends, we bring to you Veggieful.com.au… a cute world filled with vegan recipes, family tips, information and an overload of cute cartoony goodness.

EATING LIFE
I have been vegan since 2010 and have never felt better. For a while now I have been fully raw which has been MIND-BLOWING! This would have been the biggest change for me and also the greatest change. Raw food makes me feel bright, logical, calm and sparkly and I urge you to look into this way of eating and the beginners way of "Raw til 4".

GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
I have always been totally obsessed with exercise which is why I got certified as a Les Mills group fitness and pilates instructor. I teach pump, grit, booty and pilates classes and it seriously is such a fun way to keep yourself motivated and connect with fitness-inspired peeps. I have been vegan throughout this whole process and find that it is the perfect way to feel good, move well and live healthily while training like an athlete!!

THE FARM and OUR RESCUE CHICKENS
If you follow us on instagram you would know we live in what i like to call a "suburban farm". We have a hugeee veggie garden, 12 rescue chickens, crazily big pizza oven, heaps of fruit trees and a MASSIVE timber solar-powered treehouse with a zip-line and rope bridge for the girls. Our house is actually the home i grew up in which means so much to us. Our goal was to always make the house sustainable, eco-friendly and to live off the land as much as we can. Go to our Farm section of the website to see photos!

We have 12 rescue chickens. We started with a few and we have been adopting and adopting. When we received these ex-battery ladies, they were bald, fearful and so sad. After a couple of months they were clingy, noisy and affectionate. Seriously, they follow us around, watch us through the windows, try to break into the house and always want to be held. I seriously can't believe these were the chickens we first adopted. The ladies lay about 8 to 10 eggs a day which the girls sell out the front of our house in their little egg stall. Obviously we don't eat the eggs but it is a great way to allow people to purchase ethical eggs and stops the money going towards supporting more battery egg farms. We love our chickens and we will rescue them forever!

THE START OF VEGGIEFUL.com.au
I first created the concept of Veggieful when Jerome and I were sitting in our Accounting lecture at Uni. I should have realized at that point that an Accounting degree was not for me… but we still went through with it! I never expected to be sitting here, years later, a wedding photographer and vegan blogger! I was never really into cooking. Actually, I would do anything I could to avoid doing it. I would rather clean up afterwards than have to cook. I became vegan in 2010 after being vegetarian for a few weeks after being confronted with some horrific photos and videos about the animal product industries. I just knew I had to take the train to vegan-ville as the facts and truths were just too upsetting. I jumped on the train (the metaphorical vegan journey train of course), started cooking up a storm, began sharing the recipes with friends and family, bombarding the interweb with cute illustrations and never looked back! I am so glad that the accounting lecture was more boring than normal that day as I would have never scribbled the word “Veggieful” on my notepad and may have never discovered the world of Veggieful.com.au.

THE HUSBAND AND I
So what do I do besides create and share amazing life-changing dishes with all of you? Well, Jerome and I work together as wedding photographers for our business Bird and Boy Photography. This means that we are either out shooting weddings or at home with our little ladies. I am also teach Les Mills group fitness classes when our girls are at school. This is seriously fun and a great way to keep fit and happy. When we are not photographing weddings, teaching gym classes and making tasty food, we are with our girls, playing in our garden, eating fruit in the garden, playing with our chickens or doing some form of exercise.

I feel so honoured to be able to share our life with you and I am so glad that there is more and more interest in the vegan lifestyle. Veganism really is such a beneficial way of life and is also so delicious!

All in all, I absolutely adore running veggieful.com.au  - I love being able to assist others with vegan dishes, chat about cooking and food and share the creations of others... Feel free to contact me to chit chat. Enjoy our blog :)

VEGAN PARENTING
I had a completely vegan pregnancy with both Mia and Bella and continued to be vegan while breastfeeding. I receive so many questions on the subject of vegan pre-conception, pregnancy, breastfeeding and babies. To find out more, see our Vegan Baby page for more info!

Parenting for us gets more fun as they get older!! It seriously does. If you are currently in the baby or toddler stage i can ASSURE you, it gets easier and easier. Their personalities become more defined and the connection you have with their little hearts becomes stronger!

Mimi is our strong-minded, athletic and creative little lady. She was born on 05/01/2014 at 2:33am after 3 hours of labour (from water-breaking to her birth) and I knew straight away that she would make a difference in this world… I can’t wait to see what her future will bring! She is crazily strong with an impressive monkey-bar hustle, kind, intelligent, really creative (especially with painting) and a HUGE advocate for veganism. She loves being vegan and finds the whole thing to be natural and fulfilling. She speaks about being vegan ALL the time and loves to let people know why she has chosen to undertake this lifestyle. Bella is the COMPLETE opposite and you can read this in her section below haha.

.

Bella is such a character. She is sooooo mischievous and funny ALL the time! It is so easy to make her laugh. I've never known someone to be so smiley and sneaky at the same time. Bella was born on the 05/11/2015 at 10:35am after just under 2 hours of labour (from first contraction). I felt like I knew exactly who she was as soon as I met her. She just sparkled with nurturing qualities and was warm, inviting and loving. As you read above, I have never pushed the vegan lifestyle onto the girls. I cook/prepare vegan food at home but was more lenient when we were out with their friends or at birthday parties. Bella didn't want to be vegan at first. Didn't care for the reasons and just stood her ground. She would say "No! I will not be vegan and I don't have to be. It is my body and i will tell it what it wants". I always agreed and said it was definitely up to her and her body was hers. Slowly over time, she started helping rescuing animals and met a few friends at school who were vegan. One day she came home from school and said "I will be vegan now". I said "Ok" and we never really touched upon it again. It was an, easy and natural decision for her as it was her choice. Now she loves the lifestyle and the way it makes her feel inside.

  6. Do your guinea pigs carry any diseases or do guinea pigs generally carry any that can be treated with shots or creams to prevent them??do you have to take special care of them like take them to the vet a lot and bathe them a lot? and do they stink?, them personally and their cages &/or the room you guys keep them in????? Hehe sorry the Internet isn't that specific as you guys are :)!! :D

    1. Hi.. No our guinea pigs do not carry diseases. They have had one or two sicknesses such as urinary tract infections and they had to be taken for to the vet and put on antibiotics for that. I bathe them about once every couple of months. No, they do not stick but you need to clean out their bed every day. Obviously because you are keeping them in an enclosed area the bed will smell as they need to go to the toilet. We keep them in a massive open-topped bed in the loungeroom. It looks like a white picket fence house. You need a lot of room for guinea pigs... they cannot be kept in small cages and are also herd animals, so you need at least two guinea pigs. Piggies are quite high maintenance as you need to constantly be cleaning out their cage and making sure they get enough vitamin C. Guinea pigs are like humans in the fact that they cannot produce their own vitamin C and so, they can die from scurvy. So they need constant fruit and veggies. I love them so much but they are a lot of work... my chihuahuas are so much easier! :)

    1. Hello! I don't use any brands in particular. I just purchase bits now and then. When I need something, such as a mascara, I look on the PETA cruelty-free vegan company app before purchasing. If you're in Australia, Alythea Cosmetics is vegan as well as Musq Mineral Makeup :)

Your graphic design and photography is amazing (I'm a creative who took the 'sensible' route into a non-creative career and I've always regretted it, so if you're trying to be sensible, don't be!!!). I love the fact that you both work on this site together. Madison, your recipes are gorgeous. So happy to have found this site, can't wait to keep reading!

(Which your blog gave huge inspiration for doing). I am currently researching to do a study abroad program in Melbourne next year and would love the opportunity to meet you and Jerome! I am aspiring to open my own vegan coffee shop / cafe someday and it would be great to talk to you both about this and learn all I can about your wholesome lifestyles. 36. Hi Madison.

Just stumbled across you and your blog while doing some research into the transition from vegetarian to vegan. I'm a brand new veggie (since Christmas 2014) and am really enjoying the challenge, if not the attitudes of others. I've suffered with IBS since my early twenties and after just a fortnight of a veggie diet, all my symptoms had disappeared. Incredible! My family are completely supportive and enjoy my vegetarian home cooked meals. I've planned a five day vegan "test run" for next week using some of your recipes and I'm surprised how excited I feel at the prospect. I love your fresh and "light hearted" take on the vegan way of life and I'm sure I'll be popping back frequently. Tracey.
