Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

These cookies were delicious and definitely a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe. They are soft, luscious and full of chocolatey flavour. I love to add a combination of white chocolate to dark chocolate to give it a nice creamy and bitter balance. Jerome's mum was coming to stay with us for the night so I baked some yummy cookies to make the house smell comfy and nice. However, I could only serve half of the cookies as I ate a fair bit of the dough hehe. Why is the dough always so much yummier than the finished product? We all loved them so much and Jerome ate nearly all of them. So, I just had to put the recipe on here. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these :)

makes 20

   3/4 cup melted margarine
   1 teaspoon vanilla essence
   ¼ cup
Soy Milky Lite
   2 cups all-purpose flour
   ½ cup brown sugar
   ¼ cup white sugar
   50g white chocolate chips
   50g dark chocolate chips
   pinch of salt

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius (fan-forced) and line a tray with baking paper.
  2. Add all ingredients to a bowl except for the choc chips and stir until fully combined.
  3. Add in the chocolate chips and mix until the chocolate chips are evenly distributed.
  4. On the baking tray, drop one tablespoon sized balls of dough and press with a fork or your hand to flatten out. You can make them as small or big as you like.
  5. Cook for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the edges look browned and the cookies have flattened.
  6. Let them sit for 5 minutes or so until cooled and hardened.
  7. Serve on their own or with a big glass of soymilk!

  • *If you live in Australia - for vegan chocolate chips I used a Sweet William brand block of  white chocolate and Sweet William chocolate chips. You can buy these from Woolworths!

The nutrition information above is an approximate guideline.

  1. I love cookies! I also eat my fair share of the dough... And you are right, it does taste better than the finished cookies (usually)! Even though it is almost summer in the U.S., the weather in my city has been cloudy, cold, and rainy. I guess that means I ought to bake some cookies, huh?

    1. Hello! Thanks for your comment. I love the dough... oooo it is so yummy! We are in the first few days of winter here now in Australia. I miss summer already. It has been cold and rainy here too. I really enjoy the rain though. You should definitely bake some cookies. I don't normally cook anything sweet because I really don't enjoy it... but these turned out really well :)

  4. Hi! I want to try these cookies, but is the oven temperature a typo? I live in the U.S., and 250 celsius is 482 fahrenheit, which is ridiculously hot.

  5. I made them in a none vegan version as I used normal butter and white cane sugar. And formed them into huge cookies to make them even moister. SOOOOO GOOOODDDD!!!!!! Thanks very much for this easy but delicious recipe!

    1. HI Chalynda! You can try it if you like... I have just found that the water combined with the other ingredients gives me the best consistency to my liking :)

  7. For the american fans of this site, that works out to a generous half cup of chocolate chips, or about 1/2 cup plus 1 TB.
I wish so much we would use the same measurement system, as well as terminology as the rest of the planet! heh :)

I know... it would be so much easier if we all used the same measurement system. Thanks for your comment :)

  8. Hello Madison! I found your blog by simply googling a vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe. Your blog was one of the links and honestly, your blog is ADORABLE! I was reading through the ingredients of the chocolate chip cookies, and what do you mean by plain flour? Do you mean all-purpose flour? Just wondering.

    1. Hi Courtney! Thank you so much :) Yes, plain flour is all-purpose flour... I should really write that on the recipe hehe.

  9. These are wonderful! I used brown butter in place of the vegan margarine, spelt flour for the all-purpose flour, and added a pinch salt. Very, very delicious - thanks for the lovely recipe!

    1. Hello! Yes we use vegan chocolate. A lot of 70% cocoa content or above chocolate as vegan as well as the Sweet William brand of milk chocolate found in your local supermarket if in Australia.
