Vegan Chocolate and Peanut Butter Sorbet Recipe

Wow! This has to be the yummiest chocolate sorbet I have EVER eaten. I am not joking and I am not biased just because I made up the recipe. This was seriously so easy and tasted like a professional and high-quality sorbet that you would buy from an expensive or gourmet dessert bar. You don't even need an ice-cream maker! I really enjoyed the saltiness of the peanut butter against the bitterness of the dark chocolate. I was so excited when I made this and couldn't stop eating it. The flavours really remind me of when I was a little girl and my mum would take me to the ice-cream shop and we would get the Chocolate and Peanut Butter ribbon ice-cream. It was so exciting and so delicious. The taste of this sorbet brings back so many memories.

There is always a bit of confusion with the distinction between sorbet and gelato. This has more of a sorbet texture due to the creaminess of the dark chocolate and the softness of the peanut butter. Yum yum yum! I highly recommend you make this for your own indulgence. Have a lovely day!

makes 5 big servings

    2 cups water
    1 cup sugar
    1/3 cup cocoa
100g dark chocolate (70% or more cocoa content)
    ¼ cup peanut butter
    pinch of salt

  1. Add sugar and water to a pot on high heat. Stir for a couple of minutes or so until sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add cocoa and salt and stir until combined.
  3. Take off the heat.
  4. Finely chop the dark chocolate into flakey pieces.
  5. Add peanut butter and chocolate pieces to the pot and stir until combined but leave some chunks of peanut butter.
  6. Pour into a shallow tray or container and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  7. Place into the freezer for 3 hours or until nearly frozen through, stirring every 1 hour. This timing also depends on the temperature of your freezer.
  8. Serve on its own or with any desired accompaniments.

  • Make sure you stir it every hour or so. This will allow it to freeze in a nice, soft consistency.
  • Use a good quality peanut butter and dark chocolate for extra flavour.
  • Increase the sugar content if you like your sorbet sweeter.
  • Dark chocolate that has 70% or more cocoa content is usually vegan from what I have found. Check the packet to make sure. The higher the cocoa content, the stronger and more bitter the sorbet.
  • You can add some vanilla essence if desired.

The nutrition information above is an approximate guideline.

  3. I'm surprised you don't need an ice-cream maker!
I love chocolate ice-cream! I will try to make it with carob as a substitution to cocoa.

    1. Hi Venera,
I know! I was very surprised too. The difference with not using an ice-cream maker is that it comes out to be more icey as it is not churned regularly. But OMG so tasty! Tell me how your carob version goes :)

    1. Hello! Thank you for your kind words :) I am actually in the process of adding nutritional tables. I have added them to about 6 of our recipes so far... it is a big process but I hope to have them done in the next few weeks!
